soupParticipantOne thing pointed out by Terry Pluto is that that game was the first time the line played together. Lines need to gel. I’m guessing Bitonio’s poor grade was him also worrying alot about Harrison. I’ll be curious where these grades are after game 4 (assuming no injuries).
Overall, I’m wondering if Dorsey missed on Corbett in round 2 at G. They chose to start Harriosn, a UDFA at the most important position on the line and arguably in the NFL (I say thatbecause without one a QB is set to get destroyed and fail). The main reason I bring up Corbett is that he was INACTIVE for the game. Not even the 6th lineman. He didn’t dress.

Now Corbett has been seen in practice playing center and snapping the ball and JUST made that transition like 10-14 days ago. SO the staff asking to keep switching positions and him not being ready yet isn’t a surprise to me.
Honestyl I could see Corbett being Tretters successor and 2 new tackles in the offseason if the bookends keep sucking.
As for gelling well, You had the starting lineup of:
Bitonio Corbett Tretter Drango Hubbard listed as yor ones for how long? Then they cut Drango for some reason and reset the 60% of the OL from the preseason starting group. In another thread you asked what could I hold against Jackson for the tie and I drilled down to Harrison at LT. I would also add resetting the OL a week befor the opener wasn’t helpful to “”GELLING”” at all ether.

soupParticipantYou are correct in that with the line issue. I wonder more so if they are teaching Corbett C so he can be the 6th man and dress.
There has to be a reason for their method. I’ll be curious to see what kind of improvement happens Sunday

There has to be a reason for their method. I’ll be curious to see what kind of improvement happens SundayI worry that it is a 3 wat tug of war between Dorsey jackson and Haley….which I have no proof of. Just a thought taht occured to me.
But the only function so far on the O line has been DISfunction and there is a reason for it some where.
As for improvement sunday. There had better be. They are in a dome which eliminates weather excuses and going against much weaker D that almost gave 50 points last sunday. If there is no improvement, THAT will be VERY telling….

soupParticipantI would disagree about a tug of war based on the fact Dorsey is the first GM to get guys for the coach’s system that we’ve had

IceKeymasterWAY too early to give up on Corbett. Top 5 best guys on the line are playing. Bitonio is a far better guard than LT. I think the plan all along was to start Coleman at LT until they discovered quickly that he sucked. The next option was to have Greg Robinson compete with Harrison. Unfortunately Harrison spent a lot of time injured this summer and Robinson still sucks. So for preseason they moved Bitonio over to LT and let Corbett get some reps. Now that Harrison is better he’s the starter, Bitonio moves back to his natural spot and Corbett has to earn his way up the depth chart against some really goood interior linemen.

Not giving up on him. It was the inactive status that hit me. Until reading DS stating he’s been working at C

Corbett played Center at the Senior Bowl BTW. And this article has some back ground on other teams that were projecting him there as well.
So it seems like this was possibly an option all along…or they just liked his versatility.
The John Greco comparison being apt as he was a 4 position lineman. I could see that from COrbett as well.

IceKeymasterYou motherfucker. You know who you are. Cut the shit.
Back to topic; Corbett not making the starting roster is a blessing in disguise. He has the ability to move over all 3 interior line spots instead of focusing on the game coming up. He’s gonna be a starter for us at some point.

Versatility in the NFL always scares me outside of skill positions. The idea that somebody can be as good at 3 spots as people who focus all of their energy on being good at 1 spot just doesn’t make sense to me. In the nfl, it’s better of have a master of one thing than it is to have a jack of all trades, master of none.

I hear what you’re saying, but I don’t completely agree. Sure, as far as your starters go you really want aces in places, I get it. But at the same time there’s nothing wrong with a guy who can shift or float around and be competent and effective. Let’s not over think it too much, an offensive lineman’s jo is to block the guy in front of him. You can either do that at an NFL level or you can’t. If you can, it shouldn’t matter if you’re doing it as a left guard or a right tackle. Yes, I understand that there’s major differences both in position and opponent you’re blocking, but the objective is still the same. You either can or you can’t.
So being able to do it well across multiple fronts doesn’t necessarily mean that a payer isn’t good at any of them.

ParticipantTrue, but it’s harder to master 1 thing if the thing you’re trying to master keeps changing. And when you go left to right side, then the footwork becomes mirrored, and tough to keep straight in your head.
It seems to me like it’s a lot to throw on a keep changing his position, and they only do that usually if the guy isn’t good enough at the position he was playing.
I’m not down on Corbett because he didn’t play in his first game. I’m just saying, it’s odd to keep changing a rookies position, and the versatility thing is a red flag to me.
