A large part of this is Mayfield developing as a rookie, but I think a decent portion can also be attributed to Mayfield not yet being comfortable with the guys he’s playing with. Remember, Taylor got all the 1st team reps in camp, and since Mayfield has come in, at least 3 WRs have been lost to injuries.

The big dropoff in Mayfields performance came after Higgins went down, who not coincidentally, has practiced the most with Mayfield because he was 2nd string when Gordon was here in camp.

As Mayfield gets more snaps under his belt and gets more familiar with his guys, I’d be shocked if we don’t see more merfomances like the 2nd half on Sunday.

This is what happens to a rookie.

Loses confidence in throwing the ball – defenders getting better reads on him.

Loses confidence in throwing the ball – receivers constantly dropping balls

Afraid of getting hit – now he is positioning himself to take the hit.

I have said it for years – the difference between browns and good teams is practice. These guy lolly gag. Some of these passes should be thrown and caught with guys having their eyes shut.

    Hue Jackson is a loser.

It’s awesome that you get to go to all of the browns practices. I’m jealous as fuck about that.

What else can you tell us about what goes on during practice? None of us ever get to see it so please, regale us with some firsthand knowledge.

Don’t sell him short, he goes to good teams practices too. That’s how sees the differences in how they practice vs how the browns do it.

Sorry you cannot differentiate what good teams and bad teams do. You practice like you play. Good teams practice discipline. Good teams practice timing. NFL players are soooo close to talent that it is crazy.

What talent can’t do is build a team. Just look at the jerk offs this organization has invested in years. They have no clue what a good coach even is.

    Hue Jackson is a loser.

    KC – 6-1 8.3 penalties per game

    Browns – 2-4-1 8.3 penalties per game.

Steelers 3-3-1 1st in the division. 9.7 penalties per game.

3 least disciplined teams in the NFL.

    Freedom!!!

IMO The book was out on the Browns offence afte the Ravens game.

You bull rush the front and close down passing lanes and flush mayfield and play coverage to the flushed side.

The Browns OT’s have been getting roller skated since that game.

Just because Defenses are giving mayfield a bit more time is fine with them as he is holding on to the ball because he can’t see where to throw it.

If the Browns want Mayfiel to succed like Drew Brees he needs and very stout OL like Drew Brees.

Also having a replacement for Josh Gordon as big reciving target would be a great idea as well.

No. We’re not going to start the “Mayfield is too short and can’t see over the line” bullshit. It has nothing to do with his ability to be productive. He’s 2 inches taller than Russel Wilson and I don’t hear or see anyone talking about his inability to see over the line causing him to struggle.

Mayfield isn’t holding on to the ball too long because he can’t see, he’s holding the ball too long because he’s a rookie and that’s what rookies do. He’s already demonstrated that he can come out firing and make quick throws. We’re now getting to the point now where defenses are watching his film and making adjustments, and in turn Mayfield is going to have to make adjustments as well. It’s a growing process that all rookie have to go through. It’s got dick to do with how tall he is.

Completely agree shooter. There are many QBs that have come out and said it doesn’t matter, even if your 6-3, 6-4, you can’t see over the huge lineman in front of you.

There is a correlation in height and success in the NFL, but it’s not because shorter guys can’t see over the line. It’s because shorter guys tend to 1.) have arms that are too week for the NFL, and 2.) be too fragile to hold up for a season. This is why guys like Colt McCoy and Johnny Manziel aren’t NFL starters. Their arms are not strong enough, and their build is too slight.

For comparison, Russel Wilson and Drew Brees are just built thicker and can handle more punishment, and they have strong arms despite their height. Mayfield falls into this category, I believe.

Also, everybody likes to say their passes will get batted at the line. Also bull. How many passes from Weeden did we see get batted? And he’s like 6-3. The game last week, Jameis Winston had like 5 passes batted and he’s huge. Batted passes are about the D line being able to get pressure and read the QB, not about size.

I really don’t want to hear another word about Mayfields height.

I am not saying he is to short. I am saying the OL is getting their balls handed to them and Mayfield can’t see thru the mass of humanity in his face.

Are there some cases where a taller QB could see better. …well duh yeah. But it’s no the be all end all.

Botton line the OL needs upgraded not the QB.

I agree with you shooter it is not the size.

He is doing the same thing so many browns qbs in the past have done. Lost confidence in throwing the ball. He is now panicking and it doesn’t help that is receiving core is literally Landry and that’s it.

He is going to get worse and worse…. Watch…. We have seen this pony before.

    Hue Jackson is a loser.

Gotcha. And I’d say I agree with that.

Saw a guy in Parma 3 years ago get arrested for having a rolling meth lab. Wasn’t even shy about it, just a Winnebago rolling all around town cooking meth in gatorade bottles like he was a real Walter White, serving that shit like an ice cream truck. Except it was meth. Didn’t take long for him to get caught. Ya know, because of the meth. A methcream truck if you will lmao.

My guess is that you and that guy aren’t really too far off in how you view………….anything really.
