ParticipantThat’s a pretty tough prospect, as all the decisions the FO has made to this point have been focused on winning later at the expense of the interim. So, if I wanted to win NOW, there are a lot of moves the Browns have made that would have never been made if winning now were the philosophy.
But, to take a stab at immediate improvement, first I would relieve Hue Jackson of his playcalling responsibilities and give them to Al Saunders. Hue has too much on his plate, and he’s clinging to playcalling as a matter of pride.
Second, I would force Gregg Williams to stop running his BS single high safety defense that isn’t working. They drafted Peppers (an in the box safety) to be an impact player, and they’re playing him way off the line, where he’s not suited to play, and where he has no chance at 90% of plays, and when he does get involved he takes poor angles. Pull the ripcord, it’s not working.
Third, speed up the offense. Get rid of the draw, and get Crowell out of any plays run out of the shotgun. Focus on quick slants and a couple deep shots off play action. The priority has to be speeding up the clock in Kizers head.
Finally, line the receivers up execution style, point jugs machines at each one, and keep the machines running from now until game time on Sunday.

the dudeParticipantI agree alot with what Dawg said, except throwing the ball deep is not going to happen. The quick slants sound great except everyone should expect this.
It’s time to start canning some people. It’s only the fourth game of the season and these guys look like practice in July. I get that there was some moves made by FO head coach may not have expected…. But no excuse to not at least make things look like they are improving.
Fire Hue now. Fire Sasha now. Can’t get any worse.
Hue Jackson is a loser.

I agree with this, but the problem is we don’t have a free safety on our roster. Kindred has actually been playing decently at SS. As you said, Peppers is a SS too. He could be everything Polamalu was in Pitt. Can you imagine Polamalu playing 25 yards off the line of scrimmage?!? He’d get toasted!
Honestly I don’t think there is anything we can do to make this team better at the moment. I don’t see a free agent we could sign at WR that would ‘fix’ our team. Individual men just have to play better. As much as it pains me to say it, Adam Jones is right. With this roster we won’t win games.

soupParticipantI’d begin by immediately relieving Hue Jackson of his playcalling duties. I’ve said it many times, I loathe coaches who call their own plays. It’s rarely successful. Put that with the youngest team in the NFL and it spells disaster.
My hire? Ken Zampese. But wait? Wasn’t he recently fired for Bengals sucking? Yep. My logic? He was Bengals QB coach since 2003. He helped groom a lot of guys. It also means he worked with Jackson when the Bengals were successful on offense. Matching them up again could result in a much better scenerio for both.
I’d slap the stupid out of Gregg Williams with playing guys 30 yards off the line. It’s useless. I’d also ask for him to bring the pressure he promised and quit rushing 4.
I’d bench Kizer for Hogan. Why? Week 4 Kizer produced 0 points. Week 2 Kizer produced 0 points.
Couple that with holding the ball far too long, not going through reads and sucking massively under pressure (last week 0-14 under pressure) and QB is a glaring problem.
I’d start Duke Johnson at RB. He has the ability of a Leveon Bell with his pass catching mixed with running. I’ve always stated Duke should start over Crow. I’d make that change.
Completely dump the shotgun unless it’s the 2 minute drill or 3rd and 5+. We need to run from under center.
Finally, I’d force running the ball. Force it at least 30 times a game without care. One dimensional offenses are way too easy to defend.

FYI according to CBD quoting PFF stats the Browns have blitzed more than any other team in the NFL. We also have the fewest QB pressures of any team in the NFL. That is a BIG problem.

That’s hard to believe. Never looks like we blitz. He sucked at that on the Rams too. His schemes are just crap.

ParticipantI agree with Soup. It’s a Williams problem, not a players problem. Ogbah, Nassib, and others looked better rushing the passer last year than they do this year, and we sohould have better interior lineman, which should (on paper at least) be making their jobs easier.
I don’t think a bunch of players regressed, just the scheme isn’t working.
