IceKeymasterI was with you on grabbing a CB in the 2nd round until I read that you want to convert him to safety. A bigger, slower Randall? We don’t need another Randall, we need an in-box strong safety. If we’re getting a CB in the 2nd I want him to play CB.
Regarding the H-back you chose in the 6th, tell me about his special teams prowess. If he’s a huge ST standout then maybe it’s worth a shot. Otherwise he’s a free-agent.
I liked choosing a QB in the 7th, that’s something I see us doing. I also like that you picked a guy with a similar skillset to Baker. Developing a backup QB makes a lot of sense.

1 with all the rules about targeting, it makes a thumper box safety less ideal than 1 who can cover TE’s IMO. SO I went with a big CB that is GREAT against big WR’s and sucks at the Callaway and smaller types because of the quickness/CoD disparity. Also I upgraded the LB core so hopefully safety help in the run D isn’t needed.
2 He’s a combo player. He’s part FB or part #2 blocking TE of a wing back/TE that blocking on the edge. His blocking is superb, as are his hands. The only thing that isn’t superb about him is he is a tad slow by NFL standards. But his value in the 6th round is very high IMO. As if you can draft a quasi starter in the 6th you getting a steal.
3 Just watching Brett Rypien all i could do was say. That guy looks like baker playing. WHy he isn’t getting more buzz is beyond me…

IceKeymaster1) Rules against targetting? THey have them in college but not in pros. Regardless of the rules, I want a guy who is gonna make a difference against the run, rushing the QB, and causing problems near the line. If I’m converting someone to strong safety I’d rather convert a linebacker than a CB.
2) Nowhere in there did you mention special teams. We already signed Demetrius Harris at TE who is a monster blocker and has the size and speed to blow up even a D lineman. If we want to run an H-back, he’d be my first choice. And he also will contribute heavily to special teams.
3) I think the reason your QB isn’t getting much action is because he plays on that gawd awful blue turf which burns my eyes. It’s painful to watch. 😉

As for the TE. Harris is 6-7. as a lead blocker his height is a detriment not an asset. While this guy is actually thicker than Harris and Njoku at 270 as well as much shorter. He’s an upgrade for what Kitchens used Orson Charles for just like Harris is an upgrade for what they used Fells for. H back and the #2 TE IMO are 2 different position based on what Kitchens did last year.
As for the SS position. I want a guy that can cover TE’s rather than help in run support. I’d rather the front 7 (6 in nickel situations) be able to stop the run and blitz the passer. Having a 6-3 guy that takes away opposing TE’s in the passing game IMO is more valuable than a WOLB/SS type box safety. If this was the era of smash mouth football which I love by the way I would of suggested a Ronnie Lot or Cam Chancellor type bad ass dow hill thumper of a SS.
In Today’s NFL a guy that can take away the Travis Kelce’s of the NFL 1 on 1 is more valuable than a box safety.
Besides if a SS is the linchpin of a run D…it’s not much of a front 7 IMO.
