I’m surprised by the statement. It would’ve been smarter to keep mouths shut and attempt to trade him for anything.

I think that the club may have some additional details about what happened on helicopter night. There were initially claims that Manziel hit his ex girlfriend and that she did not cooperate with police. If there were no witnesses then he won’t be charged, but the NFL does not need evidence. If the NFL is convinced that he hit her then they can suspend him. Since they botched the Ray Rice issue so badly, the NFL is basically on a witch hunt for guys who beat on girls. If Manziel falls into that category, he will be blackballed just as Rice has been.

That’s the only reason I think we’d cut him instead of trying to trade him for a 7th or whatever.

I’ve probably been watching the X-Files too much, but there’s a reasonable conspiracy theory to that. It’s no secret that the NFL is an old boys club, and plenty of feathers were ruffled by our nontraditional front office, so there could very well be some mild blackballing in the league when it comes to doing business with the Browns. Assuming they’ve done some quiet due diligence, Brown and Co might have been left with no choice but the worst case scenario of having nothing to show for a first round pick after just two years, an ignominious start which the league might deem “teaching them a lesson”.

Well, I hate to be the one to say, “I told you so”, but I told you so. I told you that Johnny is all hype and no substance, but the Man-zealots and the Manziel Mafia didn’t want to believe me. How many times do I have to tell some of you “Don’t drink the Kool-Aid”?

Okay, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest . . . Johnny’s in a very dark place right now, and I don’t see him finding his way out of that place anytime soon – barring divine intercession. I honestly don’t see any NFL team picking him up this year because, quite frankly, the talent level doesn’t outweigh all the drama. That said, I think that Johnny’s best chance at resurrecting his career as a professional athlete might very well be the Nike Golf Tour.

Sad this was a bad pick before it was made. Said it was really bad pick when it was made. Then said we’d be looking for a new QB in 2 years or so.

On that note please don’t draft Goff because the same thing will happen again for different reasons.

His spindly legs scare me. Enough said for now because I don’t want to spoil my draft preview articles.

Allegedly he beat the tar out of his girlfriend (again) and threatened both of their lives. Hence helicopter.

He’s clearly a two bit pussy. I hope he gets his body caught in a wood chipper and lives cut off at the thighs.

Even his agent has dropped him. I know an NFL agent or two (ok one former agent) and for an agent to declare that a QB is more trouble than he’s worth speaks VOLUMES about what’s gone on behind the scenes that we don’t know about. His career may actually really be over.

At this point it isn’t even about football anymore, it’s about this young man’s life. His father just came out and said that if Johnny doesn’t get the help he needs he won’t live to see 24. That’s an incredible statement from a clearly concerned and desperate parent.

Also, Johnny is in a deep level of denial. Releasing a statement to deadspin that “I’m copletely stable. I’m safe and I’m secure” shows the great extent of it.

He’s been dropped by his marketing agency, his agent, and after March 9th will be out of football (no way anyone goes near him. Not after this, not even crazy Jerry).

I hope that he gets what he needs, this is very sad to watch.

Don’t feel sorry for him. He doesn’t deserve it. Like all addicts the only one that can help – is the addict themselves. He hasn’t hit his rock bottom yet. Some addicts don’t live long enough to get there. Others do and come out clean on the other side. It’s his choice and no one else’s

I feel way worse for people addicted to oxycontin because of bad doctoring than I do for Billy Vegas who needs to learn impulse control.

    Don’t feel sorry for him.

I don’t feel sorry for him, but when Ryan Leaf is on the Dan Patrick show saying “It’s like looking in a mirror” when discussing Johnny and Charlie Sheen is tweeting that he needs to slow down, you know that this kid is in deep shit. When his parents have twice in a week tried to admit him to rehab facilities but Johnny refused and left the scene, he’s in even deeper shit. When he is ignoring his family, has no contact with his team, has no agent, no marketing firm, basically no support structure of any kind and is left to his own devices and at the mercy of whoever currently has his ear, you know that he’s in the deepest shit there is. Criminal charges will be coming, civil lawsuits will be coming, Goodell has made comments about league punishment, no team will claim him after the 9th…..this kid is in a world of shit.

Many want to say that this is all his own fault, and to a degree I agree with it because ultimately he is behind his own decisions, but let’s keep in mind that Johnny has been a spoiled, pampered little brat his entire life. He’s never been held accountable for anything, has never gotten in any trouble. His parents, his coaches at A&M, his friends etc have done nothing but enable this kid for 10 years. That he’s turned out to be an entitled, egotistical little prick is not only not a surprise, but falls on the shoulders of those around him even more so than it does on himself. In many ways, he honestly doesn’t fucking know any better. He was taught that he could do whatever he wanted as long as he could kick ass on the field or buy his way out of a jam. Now he’s in the real world and it’s beating him about the head and body.

Again, it’s just sad to see.

@Shooter I agree with parts of that and I disagree with parts of that.

You’re absolutely right that his authority figures, including parents and coaches, have failed him. I guarantee you right now his dad is pacing back and forth wondering where he went wrong. It’s a scary precautionary tale for every father in the world.

Where we disagree is that you seem to absolve Johnny from personal responsibility for himself. If I’m reading you wrong in that then I apologize. Even if everyone failed him up to the day he walked across that stage after being drafted by the Browns, we KNOW that he was taught the difference between right and wrong from that moment forward. Every level of the Browns organization has done everything they could to keep him on the tracks. He was told the consequences of his actions. He suffered those consequences multiple times. The team held firm to suspending him for his actions. He ignored the advice of his peers, his agent, his NFL coaches and staff, and his parents. He made a choice. He is responsible for that choice and its consequences.

No not at all. I agree with you 100%

Ultimately the responsibility falls at his feet, he’s his own man. He may be spoiled and entitled, but he’s not stupid. I think the Browns have been quite clear with him on many things, and he just gave them a Martin Shkreli congressional smirk. I don’t think he’s taken them seriously once. I think that he truly believes that no matter what he does, even when he knows damn well it’s wrong, that he’s gonna get away with it anyway, mostly because up until recently he always has. Whether it be beating his girlfriend (allegedly), missing a meeting, or being all over the internet partying his attitude is “so what, I’ll go ‘wreck this league’ and no one will give a shit”.

The rest of it he justifies. Miss a walkthrough because he was partying the day before? “So what, I wasn’t playing anyway”. Boozing down in Texas? “Who cares, we were on a bye week”. Rolled up dollar bill in a bathroom? “Wasn’t what it looked like and no one can prove anything”. Horrible game? “eh, it happens I’ll be better next week”.

I don’t absolve him for any of that because he damn well knows what he’s doing and you can tell by the way he talks to the media. He always seems to say exactly the right thing. Because he knows (or thinks he knows) what people want to hear, because he knows himself that he’s fucking wrong. He knows he’s full of shit, he knows he’s lying, but he ultimately doesn’t care because he thinks that all he has to do is go win and no one will give a shit.

Until he has the proverbial “come to Jesus” moment, nothing is going to change with him. And just like Sheen, he needs to come to the realization that he wasn’t winning either.
