ParticipantBill, I hope your streak of predicting the Browns picks holds up, because Garrett and Trubisky would actually have me CELEBRATING a Browns draft for once. Garrett, Reddick, and KIZER in the 2nd, means I’ll be walking away pissed and dissappointed knowing this is another 2014, which was another 2012. Which means we’ll have another round of disappointment around 2020.

IceKeymasterGreat job Wunkle! As always, your mock is the one Browns fans should look to.
Some comments:
1) I’ve heard many people put Adams ahead of Hooker at safety. Their comments included that Adams can actually catch, and that he puts himself in better positions. I know you’re an OSU fan so you’ve watched Hooker plenty. How do you feel about Adams?2) LA Chargers seems like blasphemy. Las Vegas Raiders kinda fits though.
3) At this moment I’d take Watson over Trubiski. I like a guy who plays better the brighter the lights and he has all the tools. Yes, he played in an offence on training wheels but he’s a fighter and a winner. I think his INT’s can be fixed. Trubiski is just too much of an unknown for me to be comfortable drafting him at 12. He reminds me of Blaine Gabbert. Honestly I don’t think any QB in this draft deserves to be drafted in the top 15 but it’s the NFL so you know it’ll happen.

BillWunkleParticipant1) As far as which safety goes first, it’s all a matter of what you want out of the position. Adams is an in the box run support guy that’s an excellent tackler. Hooker is an excellent center field player with a knack for coming up with the interception. Both players will succeed at the next level.
2) Totally agree . . . kinda like the Baltimore Browns.
3) This time last year DeShaun Watson was the cat’s meow. I don’t know what happened. He has spells of inaccuracy, but he does play his best in the clutch.
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!

This is what has been desperately lacking for a while now…turnovers. Haden had one decent year (6), and before that it was Anthony Henry (10) and his fluke season.
We need players that cause turnovers again.

ShooterModeratorIf we get Garret AND Trubisky in this 1st round, I’m walking away from my TV like this:

soupParticipantWhy the Trubitsky obsession? 13 starts. He’s not close to ready for the big time.

That also works if you sub in the name Jimmy Garoppolo.

Highest upside of any QB in the draft.
6-3, 210. NFL ready arm. From Mentor, wants, WANTS, to play for the Browns.
He’s not close to ready for the big time.
He doesn’t need to be. The bench and the film room are going to be there for the entire year. We have Brock.

“Biggest upside” is bullshit. It’s a buzz phrase.
What adversity did he face that makes him NFL ready?
How did he do in his 2nd game against the same DC?
What did he do on files that warrants him a top 12 pick in the NFL?
Aside from Akili Smith, what QBs went in the top half of round 1 with less than 15 college starts? How’d their careers go? Same questions and include through round 3.

Playing devil’s advocate here…Brady Quinn was a local product with a ton of upside. We haven’t had much luck with the local boys. Not saying it factors in either way but…you know.
Not to mention that Kessler wasn’t supposed to hit the field at all last season. And Brock might not even be here by the end of the draft.
There are a ton of factors heading into this draft. I’m 99% sure we take Garret, and then it’s a crap shoot. All this media speculation is mostly absurd noise…I’m hoping I’ll be a happy man when all is said and done.

ParticipantIn all seriousness, I saw some stats the other day showing that Trubisky had only like 20-30 fewer completions in college than Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady and another name I forget. Fewer starts, but he had a lot of attempts and completed a lot of passes. And his TD total is up there as well.
Inexperience is literally, LITERALLY the only knock I’ve heard on him. That’s IT. Highly accurate, NFL Arm strength, height, and build. Above average mobility, and accuracy on the move.
We have to take a chance on a QB at some point.

IceKeymasterDon’t fool yourselves, only starting 13 college games isn’t the only knock on him. Plenty of QB’s have been drafted in the top 5 with very few college starts, someone less lazy than me can google them. If he were amazing, he’d be the unquestioned top pick of the draft. The sad fact is that none of these QB’s are amazing. They’re good. Like Blaine Gabbert good.

BillWunkleParticipantYou know that it’s entirely plausible that the Browns could trade back into the first after picking the BPA regardless of position and take a QB then. Stay tuned in, folks.
