Preseason Game 1 Thoughts

It was only 1 preseason game, so I don’t want to make too much of it. But, here’s what I saw:

1.). Mayfield has a shot. Obviously he was going to be the focal point of the game regardless. If he didn’t even play, the fact that he didn’t play would be the focal point. But, be played and played well. He looked poised, and that TD pass to Njoku was an absolute beaut. The sideline throw to Calloway? Unbelievable. Now, obviously it’s the preseason and it wasn’t against starters, but it was encouraging. He showed vision and pocket presence that I never saw with Kizer, Manziel, or Weeden. I’m thrilled with where he’s at.

2.) the QB POSITION IS FINALLY DONE RIGHT. Tyrod demonstrates exactly why Dorsey was brilliant to trade a 3rd for him. He can keep Mayfield on the bench for as long as needed.

3.). The o line is not where it needs to be. Very little push in the run game, pass pro was average, not good.

4.) the WRs may force time to eat crow on my Coleman stance. They didn’t even miss Gordon out there, which is really saying something. If Calloway can keep his head on straight, he may still be something.

5.) We need to find room to keep 4 RBs, because Dayes is an NFL player. He will definitely get scooped up by another team. And he’s more important to the team long term than Hyde (and I’m and OSU fan, I like Hyde).
